Eating with a Fork

March 5, 2010

Jasmine has made considerable progress from when she was slurping mush to now, where she can “feed herself.” I use the phrase feeding herself rather loosely of course because if you or I fed ourselves like she does herself, then we’d get kicked out of every restaurant in America.

In the video below, we were in a patient mood and decided this particular Saturday was as good as any to start letting her try to use utensils — and she LOVED it. Now two months later,
we have worked into the pattern of feeding her, helping her feed herself, letting her feed herself, and then letting her stir her food around in circles. It makes meal time a fun mess.

Our Little Trekkie…er

February 22, 2010

I’m sure my dad will be disappointed when he finds out we didn’t actually dress Jasmine up as Spock or any other character. She’s a trekker, one who walks :)

She was taking a step here and a step there for a few weeks, but it wasn’t until Christmas Day that she finally put enough together in a row that we considered it walking. It was weirdly anticlimactic when she did start walking because there were so many “oh she’s about to start walking…nope she fell” moments along the way. It wasn’t as definitive as the movies would have you believe where the baby is crawling, pops up, starts walking and grabs a beer out of the fridge. That was the case with labor and her crawling too. And talking actually. You know, I don’t think TV is honest with it’s depictions. Unbelievable.

Here’s the video of her finally walking. It really did take me 2 months to capture this elusive footage; it wasn’t that I was procrastinating with the editing. The Christmas and birthday videos are a different story though…

For the record, I resisted the urge to overlay The Proclaimers on this video.

First Birthday

January 18, 2010

I’m playing with time here because I just now finished the video (7/18), which is coincidentally her 18 month birthday. However, I wanted this posted chronologically so you’ll see it’s actually posted on 1/18. Good stuff. Here is a short 5 minute recap of Jasmine’s first birthday; thanks to all our friends and family who came out to make it special.

Jasmine’s First Haircut

November 16, 2009

On Saturday (11/14/09) I finally broke down and allowed for Jasmine’s first haircut. I had been trying to hold off until her first birthday as a good luck thing, but if you watch the halloween video you can see she’s in desperate need.

Surprisingly, given her general curiosity, she sat relatively still and didn’t make the haircut lady’s life too difficult.

Happy Halloween!

November 15, 2009

Happy (very belated) Halloween! While we didn’t actually trick or treat with Jasmine, mostly because we felt ridiculous carrying our 9 month old door to door asking for candy we’d obviously consume, we did dress her up. The wonderful videography here is by my good ole mom :)

Jasmine’s First Meal

July 22, 2009

As you can expect from a set of food loving parents whose main concern on their wedding day was the quality of the fare, the event you’re about to witness was one of the most anticipated by us: the introduction of solid foods.

In this case, Jasmine was fed ground up toasted brown rice cooked with water and then mixed with some formula to provide an easy transition from a purely liquid diet. And it was fed to her in a manner that shows she is clearly our first child (i.e. we had no idea what we were doing). By the end of the meal the three of us were on the same page and worked pretty well as a gastro-team. Enjoy the footage; she’s now officially part of the “food at home” tag :)

Jasmine’s Entertainment…or Ours

July 14, 2009

I swear we bought both the door jumper and the Bumbo seat with Jasmine’s interests in mind. I can only imagine how boring it must be to be a baby — if not boring then frustrating — because everything Jasmine sees is new, but she’s hardly mobile and fairly uncoordinated so she can’t get to or play with the cool new stuff.

HOWEVER, it seems that as parents we enjoy watching her try to figure out the new things more than she actually is entertained by them, which is why I now question whether we’re buying stuff for her or subconciously buying accessories to keep ourselves entertained. You be the judge :)

**You don’t need sound but hearing her grunts and squeaks are half the fun**

Jasmine’s Scuffle

July 14, 2009

I didn’t know what else to call an armless crawl that turns into a yoga pose, so if you have a better name than “scuffle” feel free to let me know :)

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 10, 2009

Not only did Jasmine let Mom (us!) sleep until 9:45 today, she had a lot to say :)

2 Month Montage

April 24, 2009

It’s a bit lengthy, but give us some credit for cutting down 60 days of her life into 8 minutes :)
