2010 Food Bloggers Bake Sale

Full post still to come but seeing as how I am always super late with the posts, I wanted to get the pictures up here first for you all to peruse Thanks to everybody who came out and helped us raise money for Share Our Strength despite the cold and threat of rain the entire day! From the bake sale alone, we raised $1,165. There were more online donations and cash donations from my co-workers though, which will put the final tally closer to around $1,350. I will put up the final number as soon as I have it.

A special big thank you goes out to Eric and Rob at the Brooklyn Flea, who donated a TWO spaces to us at their great Fort Greene location. A huge part of our success was due to being at a venue like the Flea where there was tons of foot traffic and people looking for food to begin with! So thanks again guys~

NYC Food Bloggers Bake Sale 2010 - Info

The National Food Bloggers Bake Sale, which is part of Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale campaign, was born from the mind of Gaby at What’s Gaby Cooking. Share Our Strength’s annual campaign encourages people to hold bake sales in their local communities to raise money towards their good fight of ending childhood hunger in America. A shocking 1 out of 4 children in America are hungry and while we can argue semantics in terms of what “hungry” really means, it’s still an unacceptable number.

I oftentimes look at Jasmine and feel so grateful that I am able to provide her with basic needs and I can’t imagine being one of those loving mothers or fathers who due to unfortunate circumstances, are unable to do the same. I knew I had to participate in a sale by me but when I emailed Gaby, she told me that nobody had volunteered to lead up the NYC bake sale yet. I told her that I would be happy to take up the effort because I know there are so many wonderful bloggers/bakers/eaters in NYC and it would be a loss if there wasn’t a bake sale here.

So I got started contacting a few venues and thanks to Eric at the Brooklyn Flea, we have a kick-arse location to hold it! I also contacted as many bloggers as I knew via email and Twitter and we’ve gotten a great group of bakers together so far! I’ve listed them and what they are planning on bringing in a separate post below this one.

Thanks for stopping by our little space on the interwebs and I hope that you can join us on the day of the bake sale to support your favorite bloggers and contribute to a great cause! If you can’t make it the day of, please consider donating towards our team goal here.
